  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped (red or green)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for spice)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, balances acidity)
  • 1 bay leaf (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Sauté the Aromatics

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and bell peppers. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until they soften. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef

Add the ground beef to the pot. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Step 3: Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne (if using), black pepper, salt, oregano, and sugar. Mix well.

Step 4: Simmer the Chili

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to blend beautifully.

Step 5: Add the Beans and Final Touches

Stir in the kidney beans and black beans. Let the chili cook uncovered for another 10–15 minutes until slightly thickened. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Remove the bay leaf (if used).
