  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Boil the pasta
Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Once boiling, add the penne pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente (about 9-11 minutes). Once cooked, drain the pasta and set it aside, saving a little pasta water for the sauce if needed.

Step 2: Prepare the garlic sauce
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 3: Add the cream and broth
Once the garlic is aromatic, pour in the heavy cream and chicken or vegetable broth. Stir well and bring the mixture to a simmer. Allow it to cook for 3-5 minutes, letting the sauce thicken slightly.

Step 4: Stir in the Parmesan
Add the grated Parmesan cheese to the sauce and stir until it melts into the creamy mixture. Season with salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) to taste. Let the sauce simmer for another 2-3 minutes, continuing to stir.

Step 5: Combine pasta and sauce
Add the drained penne pasta into the skillet with the garlic cream sauce. Toss everything together, ensuring the pasta is evenly coated with the creamy sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to achieve your desired consistency.
