For the Mozzarella Sticks:

  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 ½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional, for a hint of spice)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For Serving:

  • Marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cheese

  • Cut the mozzarella sticks in half for smaller pieces, or leave them whole for full-sized sticks.
  • Place them on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to prevent them from melting while frying.

Step 2: Set Up the Breading Station

  • In a shallow bowl, add flour.
  • In a second bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.
  • In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and paprika.

Step 3: Coat the Mozzarella Sticks

  • Roll each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess.
  • Dip into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  • Roll in the seasoned breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly for good coverage.
  • Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating process for a double coating (this helps create a thicker crust that holds up while frying).
  • Place coated sticks back into the freezer for 30 minutes.

Step 4: Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pan to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry 3–4 sticks at a time for about 1–2 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy!

  • Serve hot with marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce.
