Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup milk
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (optional)
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Beef
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
Step 2: Add the Aromatics
Stir in the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the onions become translucent and fragrant.
Step 3: Make the Sauce Base
Add the butter to the skillet and let it melt. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste. Then, add Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, and seasonings (salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder). Stir well to combine.
Step 4: Cook the Macaroni
Pour in the beef broth and milk, then add the uncooked macaroni. Stir everything together and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer, cover the skillet, and cook for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the pasta is tender.
Step 5: Add the Cheese
Once the macaroni is cooked and most of the liquid has been absorbed, turn off the heat. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted and creamy. Serve hot!
