Instructions

Step 1: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Stir well to ensure even distribution of salt.

Step 2: Add Liquid Ingredients

  1. Gradually add warm water and vegetable oil to the flour mixture. Stir with a spoon or your hands until the dough starts to come together.

  3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.

Step 4: Rest the Dough

  1. Cover the dough with a damp kitchen towel and let it rest for 30 minutes. This allows the gluten to relax, making the tortillas easier to roll out.

Step 5: Divide and Roll

  1. Divide the dough into 8-10 equal portions. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten with a rolling pin into a thin, round tortilla (about 6-8 inches in diameter).

  1. Heat a dry skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Cook each tortilla for about 30-60 seconds on one side, until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 30 seconds. The tortillas should have light golden-brown spots.

  1. Place cooked tortillas in a clean kitchen towel to keep them soft and warm. Serve immediately or store for later use.
