  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 lb beef sirloin or ground beef
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup French onion soup (canned or homemade)
  • 1 cup heavy cream or sour cream (for creaminess)
  • 2 cups egg noodles, cooked and drained
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Caramelize the Onions

  1. Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for 20–25 minutes until deep golden brown.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for another 1–2 minutes.

Step 2: Cook the Beef

  1. Push the onions to the side and add beef sirloin or ground beef to the skillet.
  2. Brown the beef on all sides, breaking it up as needed.
  3. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, salt, pepper, and thyme.

Step 3: Add Broth and French Onion Soup

  1. Pour in beef broth and French onion soup.
  2. Stir well, ensuring all ingredients are combined.
  3. Let simmer for 10 minutes to develop flavors.

Step 4: Cook the Noodles

  1. Meanwhile, boil egg noodles according to package instructions.
  2. Drain and set aside.

Step 5: Combine Everything

  1. Stir in the cooked noodles and heavy cream or sour cream for a creamy texture.
  2. Sprinkle shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese on top.
  3. Cover with a lid and let the cheese melt.

Step 6: Serve and Garnish

  1. Garnish with fresh parsley.
  2. Serve hot and enjoy!
