For the Dough:

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 lb sliced pepperoni or cooked sausage
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning

For the Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, then mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Step 3: Roll Out the Dough
  3. Roll the dough into a rectangle, about 12×16 inches, on a lightly floured surface.

Step 4: Add the Fillings

  1. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
  2. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly.
  3. Add pepperoni, sausage, bell peppers, mushrooms, and olives.
  4. Sprinkle garlic powder and Italian seasoning over the filling.

Step 5: Roll and Seal the Stromboli

  1. Carefully roll the dough from one long edge to the other, sealing the fillings inside.
  2. Pinch the seams to secure the roll.
  3. Transfer the Stromboli to the baking sheet, seam side down.

Step 6: Apply Egg Wash

  1. Whisk together the egg and water, then brush the mixture over the Stromboli for a golden crust.

Step 7: Bake the Stromboli

  1. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

Step 8: Let It Rest and Serve

  1. Allow the Stromboli to cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.
