  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
  • ½ cup warm milk (110°F)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring

For the Cinnamon Filling:

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp milk (if needed, for consistency)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, cocoa powder, and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is soft and elastic.

Step 2: Let the Dough Rise

  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
  2. Let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Step 3: Make the Cinnamon Filling

  1. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and cinnamon.
  2. Spread softened butter over the rolled-out dough.
  3. Sprinkle the cinnamon mixture evenly over the dough.

Step 4: Roll and Cut the Dough

  1. Roll out the dough into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
  2. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the surface.
  3. Roll the dough tightly from the long side.
  4. Cut into 12 equal rolls and place in a greased baking dish.

Step 5: Second Rise and Baking

  1. Cover the rolls with a clean towel and let them rise for 30-45 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Step 6: Make the Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  2. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until creamy.
  3. Spread over warm cinnamon rolls.
